The team at Zone has grown considerably over the past couple of months, as we take on new staff to service our growing list of clients.
One important new appointment is Adrian Goodsell, who joins us to take on a new role as Head of Social Media. Adrian joins from Moodia, where he led teams working on digital strategy and delivery for clients including Sunglass Hut, PwC and ITN.
We're far from the only agency looking to develop our social media capabilities. Creative shops, media agencies, search specialists and PR consultants are all jumping on to the bandwagon, and you can bet every pitch in town has at least one slide on Twitter, Facebook and Spotify.
So why do we believe that Zone is any different? The answer is simple - because we believe that content lies at the heart of a successful social media strategy.
If brands want to engage in conversations with their customers, they need to have something to say. That means brands need to create and distribute content - and that's what we've been doing for the past 20 years.
The digital sector has seen any number of channel specialists come and go over the years. Agencies focused on the web, email, mobile, interactive TV, paid-search, natural search and now social media are all competing for attention and budgets.
But the one thing which has always remained the same is the need for high quality content. Brands who understand how to create relevant, useful and entertaining content are the brands who will get liked, shared, linked to, commented, emailed and re-Tweeted.
Social media is playing an increasingly important role in the way we create and distribute content for brands like New Look, Ray-Ban and Channel 4 Food. With Adrian's expertise, we hope to develop our skills in this area.
Rather than jumping on the bandwagon, we believe that 'going social' is a natural evolution for a digital content agency. And we believe we're uniquely well placed to help our clients understand and exploit new opportunities in the social media space.
