The Favourite Website Awards (FWA) project, which turns 10 this year, has been a good parallel with my working life. When the program launched, I was just starting out in my career and I can recall submitting URLs for their Site Of The Day accolade in the hope that one would eventually appear on the front page.
Their annual Website Of The Year award was announced last week, via their Twitter account, with the We Choose The Moon site edging out the other 11 short-listed entries. An interactive experience recreating the historic Apollo 11 mission to the Moon (in real time), the site is engaging and well designed.
The People's Choice Award saw Spanish band Labuat's interactive music project deservedly take top honours - while the music plays, you 'paint' the song in a beautiful inked line that moves with the energy of the song. As expected, most of the sites are fairly heavy Flash pieces, but that shouldn't deter you from having a look.
It would be great to see some CSS creations reach the shortlist in 2010: there's certainly some lovely looking sites out there worthy of consideration. Have a look at the latest submissions at Site Inspire or CSS Flavor to see a small selection.
